My drafting eventually followed a more symmetrical path than the original, as it nearly drove me to the wall trying to capture the essence of each side with it's meandering and whimsical botanical design...

Great for filling little spaces in your luggage when traveling but I actually use these colours all the time - not just when I am away.

Don't forget to try these shapes as flower petals also.

I use these constantly for grapes, berries, flower centres and more! The large circle is perfect for dimensional suffolk puffs/yo-yo flowers - especially for some of us who prefer to make them using the 'old fashioned' method!

The lovely pieced 'chain' border is easy to construct using squares, triangles and four patch blocks.

You can trace the shapes directly onto applique fabrics and then cut them out with a small seam allowance for needleturn applique.

Or trace them onto paper as you create your own block design.

They can also be used for other techniques including fused applique, quilting designs and much more!

I enjoyed rummaging through my fabric collection for those very special fabric treasures that I have been saving for just the right project - and other fabrics which have been so loved and well used that there was only just enough of a small scrap left! The challenge was to use a different fabric for absolutely every piece which gives this quilt it's special timeless appeal.

Try to include a variety of prints - large scale prints can add a grand sense of drama. A 'wild' colour or print which is so 'un-you' can produce a truly heady sparkle - so definitely don't hold back when it comes to colour.

The centre star and leaf elements in this design are also scrappy but with a moderate uniformity of colour to bring the design together.

As well as the charm packs and jelly rolls, I used contrasting scrap prints from my stash for the applique shapes on each of the blocks. Alternatively, you could source favourite fabrics from your own cupboards for a charming, scrappy look. Chelsea Charm has featured on the cover of Australian Patchwork & Quilting magazine too.

This is a fabulous quilt to polish up your applique skills. The large pieces are perfect to help you to develop your rhythmic needleturn applique stitch! AND the applique is very achievable so that it will not be a work-in-progress for too long.
